Yes, Carbs are important
Carbohydrates or “Carbs” are an essential macronutrient. They come in all shapes and sizes, while some forms are better than others, they are extremely important when it comes to athletic development.
Carbohydrates are broken down by the body to create glycogen, which is basically the main energy source for all forms of movement. If the body does not have enough “stored energy” in the form ofglycogen it will not be able to produce when we need it too!
Carbohydrates also help when it comes to recovery. Both after a tough workout and after any game or event. They begin the healing process by restoring muscle glycogen to normal levels.
This means that if you don’t fuel your body properly pre and post-workout/game your placing yourself and your game at a disadvantage.
Every athlete is different when it comes to the amount of carbohydrate you take in. Activity level, age, and other biological factors come into play when determining how much you need. But the bottom line is, carbs are necessary for your improvement in the weight room and on the field!
